2018 Call for Legal & Legislative Symposium Presentations
Share |

CAI-CT is planning the Sixth Annual Legal & Legislative Symposium.  As you may recall, we received very positive feedback regarding the format used in 2017 which consisted of association attorneys and other professionals providing approximately 45 minute presentations to board members and association managers, on topics which were timely and relevant.

The symposium will take place in the afternoon of Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Oronoque Village in Stratford, Connecticut.

We are now accepting proposals for the 2018 Symposium.  We invite CAI-CT members to submit proposals for presentation at the symposium.  We welcome professionals who are well-versed in association-related issues, including but not limited to: attorneys, insurance agents, accountants, and any other business partners who have particular knowledge or experience in a legal related issue.  Suggested topics include the following:

  • Parliamentary Procedure - keeping control of the meeting;
  • Conducting meetings and open decision-making;
  • Fair housing issues and how to avoid them;
  • When does email communication between board members cross the line into decision making (the utilization of the consent between meetings) Has 2/3 consent gone too far?
  • What is Executive Session?  When and how is it held and do you/should you have minutes taken of Executive Session
  • How to handle the board that meets “informally” - When does it become a “meeting”

An Ad Hoc Committee composed of Legislative Action Committee (LAC) members will review the proposals and select the presenters by August 21, 2018.

Presenters will be required to remit a sponsorship fee of $500.  All proceeds from the symposium will be used to support the work of the Legislative Action Committee.

We look forward to reviewing your proposals.
